Libby Brooke left this life suddenly on May 29, 2008, at her home in Bangs. She was 70 years young. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will truly be missed by all.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bangs, Texas, on Monday, June 2, 2008, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Interment will be in the Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1937, in the Buffalo Community. She was the daughter of Wilbourn David and Inna Marie (Lancaster) Graves.
She married Johnnie Ray Brooke on Sept. 1, 1956, in the Buffalo Community. He preceded her in death in June of 2006. Libby worked in the dairy business with Johnnie during their first few years of marriage. After brief careers in the retail and aircraft manufacturing, Libby and Johnnie owned and operated J & L Variety Store in Bangs for several years. Libby went to work for Bangs ISD in 1978, retired 21 years later in 1999, and continued with her favorite hobby of spending family time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Libby was a member of the First Baptist Church. She served as the church treasurer from 1976-1987. Libby also served as secretary of the Esther Sunday School class for several years.
During her spare time she enjoyed traveling with her devoted husband, and also sharing times with the joys of her life, her children and her grandchildren. Libby (Mam Mu) was an avid Electra Tiger Fan, Olney Cub Fan, and Bangs Dragons Fan as she watched her grandchildren participate in sports. She was also very active in her Lady’s Social Club.
Libby leaves behind one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kimberly Brooke and their children, Kayla and Joey of Bangs, and three daughters; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Mark Newton, their children Cody and Cristen of Electra, and Chad and Haley Newton of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Ronnie Purcell, their children Joshua and Benjamin of Bangs; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and John Sykora, their children Terri and Kyle Jones of Dallas, John and Lacey Sykora of Olney, Clancey, Brooke, and Hunter of Olney; one great-grandson, Parker Sykora of Olney; a brother and wife, David and Joyce Graves of Granbury; a brother and wife, Wilburn and Shirley Graves of Fort Worth; one sister-in-law and husband, Charlsie and Bill Richardson of Cross Cut; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Ray Brooke; parents, Wilbourn David and Inna Marie Graves; and sisters, Jerry Wilson and Mickie Waren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, or the Esther Sunday School Class, or a charity of your choice.
