Kathryn (Kaye) Beatrice Plummer Petross, age 83, of Bangs, Texas, beloved wife, mother and “Nana” passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2008.
She was born on the family farm near May, Texas, on Sept. 19, 1924, to James C. Plummer and Addie Wheeler Plummer. After graduating from May High School, Kaye worked at the PX at Camp Bowie and later at Castle Courts.
On Aug. 8, 1946, she was married to her loving, devoted husband of 61 years, Murice E. “Pete” Petross.
During their years of marriage, Kaye and Pete lived in Brownwood, Fort Worth, Robert Lee and Bangs as Pete provided for his family as an educator and school administrator. Kaye always encouraged Pete to further his education. Kaye re-entered the work force in 1963, working at Texans Manufacturing, then Rippetoe’s Pharmacy in Bangs and later in Brownwood at Wilke’s Department Store, Nathan’s Jewelers and Texas State Optical until her retirement in 1984. During her three children’s school years, Kaye was active in the Bangs PTA and various other school activities. She was also a faithful, dedicated member of the Bangs First United Methodist Church for 47 years, serving the church in various capacities during those years.
Kaye is survived by her husband of Bangs; daughter Karen Allman and husband Bob of Temple, Texas; sons, Douglas Petross of Clyde, Texas, and Stanley Petross and wife Connie of Abilene, Texas. She also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Shana Shupick, husband, Michael, and children Brandon, Taylor and Jordyn of Brock, Texas; Brant Allman, wife Cindy, and daughter, Lilly, of Clifton, Texas; Kristi Kimberly, husband, Andy, and daughter, Kaniel, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Natasha Furry, husband, Josh, and son, Brady, of Blanket, Texas; Chad Petross of Wichita Falls, Texas, Brett Petross and wife, Jennifer, of Oak Park, Calif., Brenna McLennan and husband, Tanner, of Vernon, Texas, Tara Petross of Dallas, Texas, Leah Petross of Abilene, Texas, and Arian Petross of Fort Worth, Texas. Two nephews and six nieces also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth Thomas; and her brothers, Earl Plummer, J.C. Plummer and Doyle Plummer; and two nephews, Benny Plummer and Freddy Plummer.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at the Bangs First United Methodist Church, Bangs, Texas, at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 16, with the Rev. Wayne Lewis and the Rev. Danny Wooldridge officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Bangs Cemetery, Bangs, Texas.
In lieu of flower, memorials may be made in Kaye’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Bangs, Texas.
