L.E. “Jiggs” Jones, 85, of Brownwood, passed away Sept. 5, 2007, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
A resident of Brownwood for over 60 years, he owned and operated L.E. Jones Construction Company. He was one of Brownwood’s premier building contractors, building both commercial and residential areas. His greatest desire was to design, develop and build independent living communities for senior citizens. With that thought, he built Tanglewood Gardens, a neighborhood for seniors.
He was a member of the Brownwood Home Builders Association, an elder at Austin Avenue Church of Christ for 41 years, a Bible class teacher for 45 years, a board member at the Cherokee Home for Children for 40 years and a veteran of World War II, with the Army Corp of Engineers 313th Division attached to the 81st Division.
He was born March 1, 1922, in Tahoka, Texas, to L.L. and Luna Jones. He married Vi Ory on Sept. 5, 1945, in Liberty Hill,Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Vi Jones of Brownwood; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jerry Jones of Brownwood; two grandsons, David Jones and wife, Larissa, of Corinth, and Kurt Jones and wife, Carrie Beth, of Burnet, granddaughter, Andrea Noe and husband, Matt, of Keller; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Trenton and Chance Jones, Mady and Grant Jones and Hayden Noe; one extended grandson, Jason Chamberlain; a twin sister, Pearl (Maggie) Elam of Granbury; and sisters, Helen Smith of Lampasas and Roxie Rutledge of Milam, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.L. and Luna Jones; two sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Austin Avenue Church of Christ with Bo Shero officiating. Interment will follow in the Cox Cemetery, McCulloch County.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
