Graveside funeral services for William Benjamin “Ben” Cook Sr., age 97, of May, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Lost Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Williams officiating, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, Aug. 22, from 6 until 8.

Mr. Cook died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Ben was born on April 3, 1911, on Lost Creek Farm west of May to William Henry and Myrtie Earp Cook. He graduated from May High School in 1929 and attended Daniel Baker College. He was married to Ann Elizabeth McGhee in Brownwood on Jan. 5, 1933. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2005. They were longtime members of the May United Methodist Church. Ben served for 17 years on the Williams School Board and was a lifelong resident of Brown County where he farmed and ranched.

Ben is survived by a daughter, Frances Crafton and husband Darrel of May; two sons, Ben Cook Jr. and wife Jolene of Lake Brownwood and Bob Cook and wife Maria of Brownwood; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 72 years, Ann Cook.
