Funeral services for Mina L. Green, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday June 23, 2007, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, with burial taking place at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
Mina died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Regent Care Nursing Home in San Antonio.
Mrs. Green was born Feb. 17, 1912, in Alexton, La., and graduated from college at Louisiana Tech University. She was married to James H. Green in 1934 and had one child, Glenda Ruth Green, born in 1937. They moved to Brownwood in the late ‘40s, where Mina taught seventh and eighth grade history and English until she retired in 1974. She moved to San Antonio in 1998 to be close to family.
Mina was a longtime active member of Central United Methodist Church, where she taught the Glad Hand Sunday School class for 36 years. She was also active with the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, the Brownwood Classroom Teachers Association, Brown County Retired Teachers Association, and served on the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature for 10 years. Mrs. Green won many honors throughout her career including Valley Forge Teacher of the Year Award in 1970, and was honored as Outstanding Personality of the South in 1971. She also served as treasurer and volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Melinda Hipp and husband Lee of San Antonio, Larance Morgan and wife Charla of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Meredith Russell and husband Frank of Austin. She also had three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and daughter, Glenda Morgan.
