COMANCHE — Funeral services for Taylor Eugene “Gene” Shankle, 74, of Stephenville will be at 2 p.m. today at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Fair Haven Baptist Church in De Leon.

He died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Mulberry Manor Nursing and Rehab in Stephenville.

He was born March 14, 1933, in Comanche and was a police officer with the Abilene Police Department for 25 1/2 years. He was a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church in De Leon, a Master Mason and a member of Lodge No. 559 in Abilene since October 1967 and a life member of the Texas Division of the International Association for Identification. He was also a 1st lieutenant in the Texas National Guard from 1951 to 1960.

He was married to Bernice Taber on Feb. 18, 1953, in Comanche.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Shankle of Stephenville; a brother, Charles Shankle of Paradise; three sisters-in-law,; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Omie Taylor Shankle; two brothers; and one sister.
