To the editor:

I represent the Toys for Kids local program and would like to express my gratitude to the community for residents’ donations and to the media for helping us relay the message that we are asking for donations and getting the message to those in need — to reach out to us for help.

The program was founded by my late husband, Dennis, and me. Dennis made many contributions in the community, especially those involving children and the sick. He believed in this joint effort to help during a very special, joyous, yet struggling time of year. What a generous community we have. It really is the season for giving. There are bell ringers, food and coat drives. There are toy drives for multiple organizations and many other charity groups, and somehow everyone usually has a successful year.

This area is always willing to give out a helping hand and we all have many things to be thankful for. During our family’s troubling times and Dennis’ lengthy illness, this community reached out and touched us. Volunteers have filled in for me while I have not been able to give 100 percent.

I want to thank everyone for giving so much last year and the years before. We are healing from our loss and are in the planning stages to make this program bigger, better and more personal for each for the families. Please remember us this year with your prayers, toys or monetary donations.

Thank you and merry Christmas to all.
