Summer is the ideal time to go “barefoot,” so the timing of the production of Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” by the Lyric Performing Arts Company is perfect.
The popular comedy will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday at the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center at Brownwood High School. It’s a comfortable setting for what promises to be an enjoyable afternoon or evening of entertainment.
The Lyric continues to produce quality theater while showcasing the talents of local residents, all to the benefit of Central Texas audiences. This week’s production of this well-known show follows last December’s rendition of “The Sound of Music,” which played to full houses at the Howard Payne University Theatre.
Before too long, the Lyric players will have a permanent home downtown, in the historic Lyric Theatre. Fund-raising continues for the building’s restoration, and major strides have been made in recent months toward its completion. More work, and more funds, will be needed, certainly. But meanwhile, the Lyric continues to prove itself as a viable component of the fine arts scene in Brown County.
So, this week, don’t fail to go “Barefoot.” You’ll have a great time.
