To the editor:

I want to encourage all registered voters in Brownwood to support Propositions 2, 3, and 4 in the May 10 special election. These propositions will not raise your taxes, and by voting “Yes” for all three, you will be supporting the improvement of programs for both our youth and senior citizens.

I have had the privilege of serving on the City of Brownwood Parks and Recreation Master Plan Committee for the past two years. Our committee has worked to develop a plan that will bring our baseball and softball complex to a level that will not only provide the hundreds of local participants a great place to play, but will assist our community in attracting statewide tournaments to our community for many years to come. Our current baseball/softball complex has served us well, but it is time to bring these facilities up-to-date.

As one of Brownwood’s largest employers, Brownwood Regional Medical Center is regularly recruiting top professional nurses, physicians, and technicians to serve our community. Improving our baseball/softball facilities along with adding a new recreational swimming pool will provide the amenities that many young families desire for their children when contemplating relocation to a new community. Having these improved facilities will greatly enhance

our ability to promote Brownwood to these young professionals and help us compete against other communities seeking to attract the same candidates.

By voting “Yes” for Propositions 2, 3 and 4, you are supporting the improved health of our entire community. These park improvements are a good use of our Economic Development funds that will improve the quality of life for our current and future employees and their families.
