The contemporary celebration of Christmas has expanded to include many different endeavors, ranging from community to family to personal and – of course – business. Brownwood area residents have an opportunity to experience the best of the “community” part of the observance tonight and again Saturday night when the first Christmas Under the Stars Festival is held following the annual Christmas Lighted Parade downtown.
The parade is a long-standing tradition in Brownwood, even though its sponsor this year – Southside Church – is handling the complex arrangements for the first time. The community owes that congregation a vote of thanks for stepping in, just as it should also extend its appreciation to the Brownwood Jaycees who performed this important duty and built the parade into the highly anticipated event it is today.
Meanwhile, what could be a tradition in the making will open when the parade comes to a close. The scope and variety of the booths and activities on the schedule for Christmas Under the Stars is impressive for a first-time endeavor. And those attending who are unable to stay long enough to see everything tonight will have a second chance Saturday as the festival continues.
Celebrating Christmas with others in the community is an appropriate way to set the stage for the rest of the season, when families, churches and organizations will have their own events. Don’t miss this weekend’s events and start the Christmas season right.
