To the editor:
I would like to take this time to let everyone know what is and who is REACT? Letís start with WHAT is. The letters of REACT stand for Radio Emergency Associated Communication Teams. We are a nonprofit organization under State law in accordance with IRS regulations governing 501(c) (3). REACT is a solely volunteer, no pay, just volunteer. Started back in 1962 only using CB radios. Now we use General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), Amateur radio, FRM, etc. During this time REACT has been involved in helping the citizens of Brown County in time of weather watch, assisted fire and law enforecment, helped stranded motorists, manned barricades, parked cars, parades, crowd control and support services to charitable organizations and activities held for community improvement. These are just a few of the thingís REACT does. It is the cash donation that helps to maintain equipment, pay bills and do up keep at the building.
Reactors are never on the scene, unless called by the proper authorities.
Now, who is REACT? We are your everyday citizens, just like you, who have a sincere desire to give, to make a difference in the community. We are volunteers who go though training, buy uniforms, gas to get to each call out - all this at their own cost. Did I mention we are volunteers? This organization is not a law enforcement organization, and a member will at no time act as such on his/her own. You see this is why we ask for your donations when we manned barricades, and parked cars at your activities to help pay bills. We meet at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at 110 W. Anderson.
