BALLINGER- The City of Ballinger is looking for a new Chief of Police. The position currently held by J.C. Gore will be open on January 31, 2012 due to Gore's retirement. Ballinger's Chief of Police announced his retirement to the City Council last Monday, December 5, 2011, and the City Council started the hiring process.

After a misunderstanding among the council members, City Mayor Sam Mallory said that the process will be open for all candidates interested in the position, and the council will be open to receive applications until January.

Members of the council thought that the hiring process would be open first to city employees, following the personnel policy, but Mayor Mallory said that the process will be open for all candidates interested in the position at the same time.

Council member Philip Arp said that opening the process to the nearby communities would provide a better pool of candidates, and may bring the best options to town.

On Monday, December 19, the City Council will be reviewing the process, and any applications if received.

Chief Gore started to work with the City of Ballinger in 1985 as dispatcher. On September 2000 the City Council appointed Gore as Ballinger's Chief of Police.
