The Howard Payne Lady Jackets’ offense caught fire in their American Southwest Conference opener Thursday night at the Brownwood Coliseum, and LeTourneau had no answer.

Behind a 49 percent shooting effort, and 27 turnovers forced on the defensive end, the reigning ASC West champion Lady Jackets rolled past LeTourneau, 107-79.

Micah Cisneroz scored a career-high 32 points, converting 12 of 24 field goals including 4 of 10 three-pointers. Sarahi Castillo chipped in a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, sinking 11 of her 23 shots. Sabrina Ochoa contributed 14 points, hitting 5 of 10 shots and 3 of 7 treys, while Valarie Matlock also added a double-double, pouring a dozen points while dishing out 12 assists.

Also scoring for the Lady Jackets were Djimonii Jackson with eight points trailed by six from Dominique Featherstone, five from Presley McKethan, three from Jada Evans and two points from Kristin Cunningham.

Howard Payne (4-4, 1-0) scored at least 20 points in every quarter, taking a 23-22 lead after one quarter which ballooned to 52-33 by halftime. Through three periods, the Lady Jackets extended their cushion to 87-56. The largest lead of the night for Howard Payne was 31 points on two occasions, the final time occurring with 8:42 left as a layup by Ochoa made the score 89-58.

LeTourneau (1-4, 0-1) converted 40 percent of shots and owned a 13-8 edge on points at the free throw line, but sank just four three-pointers compared to nine for the Lady Jackets.

Latanya Drakes paced LeTourneau with a double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds, while Crystal Jones also chipped in a double-double of 22 points and 10 boards.

The Lady Jackets wrap up a string of three home games in six days as No. 3 UT-Tyler visits at 1 p.m. Saturday. HPU dropped a 79-75 non-conference decision at UT-Tyler the day before Thanksgiving. Saturday’s contest will also be a rematch of the 2015-16 ASC championship game.
