Brownwood concludes Abilene Ice Breaker tournament with victories over Wichita Falls Rider, Wall

ABILENE — Two weeks into the season the Brownwood Lady Lions have already reached double figures in the win column.

The Lady Lions ran their win streak to seven games and improved to 10-1 overall with victories of 5-2 over Wichita Falls Rider and 10-1 over Wall Saturday to conclude play in the Abilene Ice Breaker softball tournament.

In the morning victory over Rider, Brownwood allowed a first-inning run but answered with four in the top of the second and another insurance run in the fourth.

The Lady Lions amassed 10 hits — two each by Ayanna Clemons, Annie Gillispie, Chyanne Ellett and Emily Perez and one apiece from JaKobee Holloway and Danyelle Gongora. Clemons doubled and drove in two while Gillispie, Gongora and Victoria Sanchez provided RBIs as well.

In the circle, Ellett pitched all five innings and allowed a pair of earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

Against Wall, Brownwood scored twice in the first inning, five times in the second and three times in the third. The Lady Hawks’ lone run crossed the plate in the top of the first.

Sanchez finished with three singles and drove in four runs, while Alexis Larrea contributed two hits and three RBIs. Holloway, Perez and Ashlynn Patteson chipped in one hit and one RBI apiece, while Clemons and Karly Harper also contributed to the 12-hit attack.

Larrea worked all four innings in the circle, yielding one run — unearned — on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Lady Lions visit Liberty Hill at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and host Anson at 7 p.m. Friday in the home opener.
