EARLY — The Early Longhorns baseball team slipped to 3-2 on the season with a 10-4, eight-inning home loss to Clyde Tuesday night.
The Longhorns grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning and were in front 4-1 through six. Clyde, however, pulled even with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings, then scored six runs in the eighth to claim the victory.
Early finished with just four hits — one each by Christian Alcorta, Tristan Horton, Chase Keilers and C.J. Hanley — and drew four walks. Alcorta finished with two RBIs, Keilers added one and Horton tallied the lone extra base hit with a double. Jesson Tarrant walked twice while Hanley and Trace Evans also drew free passes.
On the mound, Alcorta worked the first six innings and allowed four runs — one earned — on six hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Hanley pitched 1.2 innings of relief and gave up six runs — one earned — on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Miguel Elizondo recorded the final out and surrendered one hit.
Defensively, the Longhorns committed six errors while Clyde finished with 12 hits.
Early is back in action at the Sweetwater tournament Thursday through Saturday.
