Jaci Garvin’s inside-the-park-home run helped spur Denison to a 5-1 victory against Wichita Falls in the District 5-5A opener at Denison on Tuesday night.


Kayla Daugherty doubled and drove in a run, Elizabeth Linwood doubled and scored, Yvette Moreno drove in a run and Jaydan Hunt allowed three hits, a walk, an unearned run and struck out three for Denison (5-7-1, 1-0), which will compete in the McKinney Tournament starting on Thursday.


District 5-5A


Sherman 13, WF Rider 3 (6)


Jill Dixon was 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI and three runs as Sherman started 5-5A play with a run-rule victory against Wichita Falls Rider.


Hailey Arndt was 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs, Kaitlin Bang was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored twice, Jillian Whitmire tripled, drove in a run and scored and Jessica Bridges and Natalie Carrasco each went 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored for Sherman (7-4, 1-0).


District 10-3A


Van Alstyne 9, Commerce 1


VAN ALSTYNE — Peyton Welch homered and drove in two runs as Van Alstyne opened district play with a victory against Commerce.


Maddi Williams was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in two runs and scored, Amryss Brogdon was 2-for-2 with a double and drove in a run, Landry King had two RBI and Carly Ochoa was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored for Van Alstyne (4-4, 1-0), which scored seven runs in the sixth inning.


District 14-2A


Honey Grove 9, Campbell 8


CAMPBELL — Bree Cason was 2-for-4 with two homers and six RBI as Honey Grove outlasted Campbell in the district opener.


Lainey Whitlock was 3-for-4, Ashlee Foster was 2-for-4 and Isabella Morrison walked four times, stole three bases, scored two runs and drove in a run for Honey Grove (1-2, 1-0), which will compete in the Chisum Tournament starting on Thursday.


The Lady Warriors made five errors during Campbell’s seven-run fourth inning.


Non-district


Bonham 9, Caddo Mills 3


BONHAM — Katie Jones was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in two runs and scored as Bonham beat Caddo Mills in non-district action.


Carsyn Hemby was 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored twice, Sidney Sewell homered and drove in two and Kelsey Odom was 2-for-3 and scored for Bonham (12-1) in a game where all the runs were scored after the third inning.


Melissa 4, Community 2


NEVADA — Audrey Solomon homered and drove in two runs as Melissa defeated Community in non-district action.


Alexis Pevehouse doubled, drove in a run, scored and struck out 13 to pick up the victory and Kylee Brakebill and Kennedy Eanes both scored for Melissa (12-1).


Anna 2, Quinlan Ford 0


ANNA — Hannah Howell pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the Lady Coyotes defeated Quinlan Ford.


Howell also singled and scored for Anna, while Shelby Dombrowski added a double, an RBI and a run scored. Madison Davis was 1-for-3 with a single.


Anna will co-host a tournament with Van Alstyne this weekend.


Bells 16, Collinsville 11


BELLS — C.J. Crane was 4-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and three runs as Bells defeated Collinsville in non-district action.


Cassidy Scott was 4-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice, Cheyenne Floyd was 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two RBI and three runs, Chesney Blount homered and drove in three runs and Ashley Sloan was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI for Bells (7-0), which scored at least two runs in every inning.


Tom Bean 15, Gunter 2 (5)


TOM BEAN — The Lady Cats pounded out 16 hits in only four innings at bat as they hammered out a win against Gunter.


Ellie Bailey led the way with a 3-for-4 day with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI. Annie Bailey was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI; while Jewel Mason added three hits and two RBI and Baylee Stautzenberger went 2-for-2 for Tom Bean (8-2).


Annie Bailey struck out 10 in five innings to get the win, although Rylee Hestand gave Gunter (1-6-1) the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the first.


Plano West 8, Celina 1


PLANO — Micayla Galloway was 2-for-3 during Celina’s non-district loss against Plano West.


Alexis Ginegaw singled and scored, Hannah Ubanoski doubled and drove in a run and Kalea Kellum singled for Celina (4-5).
