Facing two top-notch teams, the Alice Coyotes split on the first day of the Mission Classic in the Rio Grande Valley Thursday.

The Coyotes beat the San Antonio Alamo Heights Mules, 10-1. They then returned and lost the second game of their doubleheader to 19th-ranked Mission Veterans,10-1.

Manuel Garcia was 2-for-3 with a home run and had four RBIs in the win against the Mules, who played in the Class 5A state tournament last season. Cameron Trevino was 3-for-3 with three runs. R.J. Galvan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Galvan was awarded the win on the mound. He gave up six hits and one run through six innings.

Kevin Hill was tagged with the loss against Veterans. He was relieved in the game by Brian Gutierrez and A.J. Arellano.

Hill and Galvan were both 2-for-3 in the game.
