ABILENE — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions began the third and final leg of the District 4-4A soccer schedule with 1-0 road losses at Abilene Wylie Friday night.
“We lost both, but both teams played considerably better than they did Tuesday against Stephenville,” said Lions and Lady Lions head coach Keith Robinson. “We played very well, very hard and with the right attitude and the right mentality.
“Credit the Wylie boys and girls, they’re very good and very athletic and do a good job at what they do. They put us in some awkward positions at times, put us deep in our own box, but our kids came up big on both ends, girls and boys. There were times where we had to make some saves in front of our own goal and our keeper wasn’t in the right position on shots that should have gone in, but we were able to keep them out.”
The Lions (1-13-1, 1-6) and the Lady Lions (8-8, 2-5) visit Mineral Wells in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday, then close the regular season at home Friday in a twin bill against Stephenville. With only four teams in the district, the Lions and Lady Lions are already guaranteed postseason berths.
