LAMPASAS — Sparked by four home runs, the Brownwood Lions hammered Florence, 15-5, in Thursday’s Lampasas baseball tournament opener.

The Lions (4-6), who scored in six of seven innings, finished with 15 hits — including home runs by Hunter Leonard, Blaine Hughes, Rylan Reagan and Harley Price.

Leonard also tripled and drove in four runs while Price collected three hits and three RBIs. Gavin Clemons tallied three hits and scored three runs while Grant Fanara chipped in three hits and crossed the plate once. Hughes and Reagan notched two RBIs apiece while Cain Kittrell tripled and knocked in a run. Grayson Swanzy added a single and a run to the Brownwood offensive effort.

On the mound, Hayden Donahoo pitched six innings and allowed five runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts and two walks to collect the win.

The Lions led 1-0 after one inning, 4-3 after two, 7-4 through three and 11-4 after four innings. Through six, the score was 13-5 and Brownwood tacked on two additional runs in the top of the seventh.

Brownwood scored its first-inning run when Kittrell came home on a passed ball after a leadoff walk.

The Lions stretched their lead to 4-0 in the top of the second as Kittrell’s RBI sacrifice fly scored Price, who singled, then Hughes followed with an inside-the-park home run.

Brownwood’s three runs in the third were the result of a home run to left field by Price that also plated Donahoo and Clemons, who both walked.

The Lions tacked on four runs in the fourth as Reagan’s two-run blast to center scored himself and Fanara, who reached on a single. Three batters later, after a single by Clemons, Leonard ripped a two-run shot to left field.

In the sixth, Leonard’s two-RBI triple brought home Clemons, who singled, and Justin Buchanan, who walked.

The Lions will face Lampasas at 10 a.m. today, Jarrell at 2 p.m. today and Killeen at 3 p.m. Saturday to wrap up tournament action.
