Brownwood faces Killeen in finale of Lampasas tournament
LAMPASAS — The Brownwood Lions evened their overall record and stretched their win streak to three games with victories over host Lampasas, 8-3, and Jarrell, 9-6, at the Lampasas tournament Friday.
In the victory over Lampasas, the Lions took the lead with a five-run fourth inning and tacked on three more runs in the sixth. Brownwood finished with eight hits at the plate and two errors in the field.
Offensively, Hayden Donahoo collected two hits and a pair of RBIs, Rylan Reagan added two hits — including a double — and an RBI, and Grant Fanara contributed a hit and drove in a pair to pace the offense. Harley Price doubled and provided two RBIs while Gavin Clemons and Grayson Swanzy each chipped a single.
On the mound, Reagan went the distance and allowed three unearned runs on five hits with four strikeouts to collect the victory.
In the triumph over Jarrell, the Lions broke a 1-all tie with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but allowed three runs in the bottom of the frame. Jarrell grabbed a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lions bounced back with four runs in the top of the seventh to snatch the win.
Brownwood’s 14-hit attack included two each from Fanara, Reagan, Donahoo, Price, Swanzy and Cain Kittrell — who also finished with team-high three RBIs. Swanzy drove in two while Fanara, Reagan and Price each chipped in an RBI. Clemons and Hunter Leonard both singled, as well.
Caleb Hernandez notched the complete game victory on the mound, surrendering six runs — one earned — on eight hits with five strikeouts. The Lions committed four errors in the field.
The Lions (6-6) wrap up Lampasas tournament action against Killeen High at 5 p.m. Saturday, then host Bangs in their first game at Morris Southall Field at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
