MENARD — Led by seniors Micah Drake and Jessie Harris, the Brookesmith Lady Mustangs won the District 16-A track and field championship Thursday.
Brookesmith finished with 117 points followed by Cherokee with 106, Paint Rock with 96, Menard with 88, Eden with 84, Richland Springs with 71, Lohn with 12, and Rochelle with two points.
In the 100 meter dash, Drake finished first with a time of 13.25, and Jessie Harris placed fifth with a time of 14.22.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Katie Harris placed second with a time of 2:52.
In the 100 hurdles, Drake won first with a 17.56, Jessie Harris was second at 18.31, and freshman Sesily Morris was fourth at 22.28.
In the 300 hurdles, freshman Laramie Nelson finished fourth with a time of 1:00 flat.
In the 800 meter relay, the team of Drake, Nelson, Katie Harris, and Morris placed second with a 1:59.
In the mile relay, the team of Jessie Harris, Nelson, Morris, and Katie Harris placed second with a time of 4:55.
In the long jump, Drake was the district champion with a jump of 15-8.5.
In the discus, freshman Jolene Andrews placed sixth with a throw of 67-11.
In the triple jump, Katie Harris finished fourth with a jump of 29-6.5.
In the high jump, Jessie Harris finished second at 4-4.
In the pole vault, Jessie Harris was the district champion with a vault of 9 feet. Drake placed fourth at 7-6 and Katie Harris vaulted her way to fifth place at 6-0.
Junior Chyna Allgood has an injured foot and could not compete at the district meet.
Area qualifiers for Brookesmith are Drake, Jessie Harris, Katie Harris, Nelson, and Morris.
The area track meet will be in May on Wednesday.
