FORSAN — The No. 10 Brownwood Lady Lions moved back into a share of the District 5-4A softball lead with the Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs, thanks to Thursday night’s 9-5 victory over the Big Spring Lady Steers.

Slated to be played in Big Spring, the game was moved to the artificial turf field in Forsan and pushed back to an 8 p.m. start time due to weather.

The Lady Lions (23-3, 6-1) got off to a sluggish start as Big Spring (15-14, 3-4) held Brownwood off the board for the first three innings.

Trailing 1-0, the Lady Lions erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth inning and added an extra run in the fifth to open a 6-1 advantage.

Big Spring rallied in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 6-5, but the Lady Lions tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.

Brownwood finished with nine hits, including two each from Ayanna Clemons, Emily Perez and Ashlynn Patteson, who all drove in two runs. Kayla McFarden chipped in a two-RBI triple, while Danyelle Gongora singled and knocked in a run as well.

In the circle, Chyanne Ellett went the distance, allowing four earned runs on four hits with 15 strikeouts and 10 walks.

The Lady Lions wrap up the regular season at 5 p.m. Tuesday when they host Snyder in the home finale.
