TUSCOLA — Early clinched 14 berths in the Region I-3A track and field meet, while Bangs will be competing in eight events based on performances at Wednesday's 5-3A/6-3A area meet hosted by Jim Ned High School.
The Early Lady Horns lead the charge with 10 spots secured, six of which belong to area champions. Winning their respective events were Trinity Tomlinson in the 100 meters (15.78), 300-meter hurdles (47.63) and high jump (5-2), Jensen Hutchins in the 100 meters (12.84), Tuesdi Tidwell in the pole vault (12-1) and the 4x200 relay team of Tomlinson, Tidwell, Parker Smith and Hutchins (1:49.69).
Advancing as an area runner-up is Riley Philpot in the 800 meters (2:33.26), while Smith was third in the 200 meters (28.0). Tidwell came in third in the long jump (16-3.5) and fourth in the triple jump (34-1.5).
The Bangs Dragons locked up seven regional berths led by area champions Timothy Hall in both the 1600 meters (4:51.92) and 3200 meters (10:48.27) and Trett Mitchell in the 300-meter hurdles (39.06).
The 4x100 relay of William Anderson, Colton Brewer, Colton Martin and Mitchell (44.56) and the 4x400 relay of Anderson, Tanner James, Jesse Sanchez and Mitchell (3:31.99) both advanced with third-place finishes.
Also moving on for the Dragons are Sanchez in the 400 meters (52.12) and George Nicholas in the high jump (J5-8), who both came in fourth.
For the Early Longhorns, Ryan Hill captured the area championship in the 800 meters (2:03.27).
A third-place finish by Carlos Moreno in the high jump (J5-10) and fourth-place efforts by Devyn Burns in the 200 meters (23.07) and Jeremiah Fowler in the 3200 meters (11:06.68) punched regional tickets.
Bangs Lady Dragon Ryli Pruitt also qualified for regionals, finishing fourth in the pole vault (9-0).
The Region I-3A track and field meet will take place at Abilene Christian University April 28-29.
