Howard Payne Lady Jacket senior Tayler Rushing was honored by the American Southwest Conference Tuesday as she was selected second-team utility player in softball.
Rushing, a four-year letter winner for the Lady Jackets, played outfield, infield and pitched at various times throughout the 2017 campaign.
At the plate, Rushing led all HPU full-time starters with a .367 batting average, collecting 36 hits on the season — including five doubles and three triples. Rushing also drove in nine RBIs and scored 12 runs in 35 games, 32 of which were starts.
In the circle, Rushing posted a 2-2 record with a 7.44 ERA, three strikeouts and 11 walks in 16 innings pitched.
Defensively, Rushing finished with a .951 fielding percentage, committing just three errors despite playing numerous positions.
Howard Payne finished with a 7-31 overall record, 5-25 in American Southwest Conference action.
