GRANBURY — After rallying from a three-run deficit Friday night, the Early Lady Horns climbed out of a 10-run hole Saturday morning for a 13-11 victory and two-game sweep of the Boyd Lady Jackets in Region I-3A area playoff series action.

With the series victory, the District 6-3A champion Lady Horns (26-7) will move on to face District 7-4A third seed Peaster — which eliminated District 5-4A champion Clyde in the area round in three games — in the Region I-3A quarterfinals next weekend.

Early took the lead with an eight-run frame in the top of the fifth after Boyd (11-19) entered the inning with a 10-4 edge.

The Lady Horns' fifth began with a double down the left field line by Makayla DeLeon, which was followed by an RBI double from Laiken Reagan. Ashlyn Kirby then singled and Emma Loven reached on an error which brought home another run. Gabby Constancia walked and Parker Smith delivered an infield single, then Sydnee Shea ripped a three-RBI double that evened the score at 10-all. DeLeon then singled home Shea for an 11-10 advantage, while Reagan doubled home DeLeon to boost the lead to 12-10.

Boyd closed the gap to 12-11 in the bottom of the fifth but left two runners stranded.

The Lady Horns got that run back in the top of the sixth when Shauna Kay Connelly led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by Loven.

The Lady Jackets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, doing all their damage off DeLeon, who was relieved later in the frame by Reagan. Boyd tacked on four more runs in the third inning before Early's offense came to life.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Horns generated their first four runs — all with two outs.

Smith and Shea singled in succession ahead of a two-RBI base hit by DeLeon. Reagan followed with an RBI single to drive in DeLeon, while Kirby knocked in Morgan Luckie, running for Reagan, with the fourth run.
