ABILENE — For the second consecutive night, the Peaster Lady Hounds shut down Early’s offense, as the Lady Horns bowed out of the playoffs in the Region I-3A quarterfinals with an 8-2 Game 2 loss Friday at Abilene Christian University.
District 6-3A champion Early (26-9) was blanked 6-0 in Thursday’s opener and after drawing even at 2 in the second game, was outscored 6-0 down the stretch as the season reached its conclusion.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Lady Horns responded with their only two runs of the series in the bottom of the first.
Parker Smith opened the inning with a line drive single to left field, then Sydnee Shea followed with a two-run homer over the center field wall.
The Lady Hounds (19-10) immediately answered in the top of second with an RBI sacrifice fly by Katie Ruddy that scored Hannah Bird, who walked, and Peaster never looked back. The Lady Hounds added three more runs in the fifth and two in the seventh inning.
Early mustered just four hits off Rylie Melton, who struck out seven, as Smith added another single and Makayla DeLeon chipped in a base hit.
In the circle for Early, DeLeon gave up five earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and 11 walks in seven innings.
