The Archery Shooters Association state qualifying tournament will be hosted Saturday and Sunday by the Brownwood Bowhunters Association. At stake are berths in the Texas ASA Federation State Championship in Irving July 15-16, and the tournament is open to bow enthusiasts of all ages.

The BBA range is located 1.5 miles south of Brownwood on FM 45. The entry fee is $30 for adults and $20 for students. The top 10 finishers in each shooting class advance to state.

The course consists of 30 McKenzie three dimensional animal targets that are set up in the woods in realistic hunting situations, according to Richard Porter of the Brownwood Bowhunters Association.

“It’s almost like a round of golf with everybody set up in foursomes,” Porter said. “Everyone shoots at their targets, marks their scorecards, pulls their arrows and goes on to the next target.”

Shooters can participate either Saturday or Sunday with registration time at 8:30 a.m. each day and a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
