Basketball for kids of all ages will take place Saturday and Sunday in Brownwood, as Southwest Hoops based out of Lubbock hosts the Brownwood Shootout youth basketball tournament.
Divisions include first and second grade; third and fourth grade, fifth and sixth grade; seventh and eighth grade; and varsity girls and boys action.
As of Tuesday, 25 total teams had registered for the event, though that number could change before tip off this weekend. However, City of Brownwood Sports Coordinator Roland Soto said brackets are expected to be finalized Wednesday. Each team is expected to play a minimum of three games.
“(Southwest Hoops) is doing a lot of tournaments in Odessa, Lubbock, Midland, Plainview, San Angelo and Big Spring,” Soto said. “They’ve been interested in doing one in Brownwood but have never really had anyone available before to put it together for them. I reached out and it was only about a month and a half before we were able to get one scheduled.”
Games will be played at both Brownwood High School and Brownwood Middle School. As of Tuesday, Brownwood will be entering a varsity girls team, a varsity boys team and a junior high boys team for certain.
More information on the tournament will appear in Friday’s edition of the Bulletin.
