ABILENE — The Brownwood Lady Lions volleyball team concluded its six-match run at the annual Abilene Bev Ball Classic with a 3-3 overall record.

Brownwood finished third in Gold Division pool play action Friday, notching a 2-2 record with victories over Rotan and Breckenridge and losses to Boerne Champion and Lubbock Coronado.

In Saturday action, the Lady Lions downed Burleson in their first winner’s bracket contest before falling to Krum.

“Overall we did great and we are pleased with our performance over the weekend,” said Lady Lions second-year head coach Julie Kennedy. “We found out what areas need more work but most importantly we are improving each time we step on the floor.”

The 25-20, 25-23 triumph over Burleson featured five kills from Torrey Miller, four from Cheyenne Stroope, three from Mikaela Smith and two from Aleyia Cotton.

Hadley Monroe tallied four assists while Davalynn Monroe notched a pair, along with a team-high three aces. Miller, Smith, Aleyia Cotton and Hadley Monroe added two aces each.

Miller finished with four blocks, Smith and Stroope tallied two each and Aleyia Cotton finished with one.

In Friday’s 25-7, 25-7 victory over Rotan, Brownwood’s 18-kill attack featured five from Miller, four by Smith, three by Ashlyn Patteson, two each by Stroope and Aleyia Cotton and one apiece by McKenzie Welker and Tyra Cotton.

Hadley Monroe dished out six assists, Davalynn Monroe chipped in five, Miller added four and Aleyia Cotton was credited with one.

The Lady Lions finished with 12 aces as Annie Gillispie served six followed by Smith and Davalynn Monroe with two each and Miller and Hadley Monroe both with one.

Defensively, Miller led the way with seven digs trailed by Aleyia Cotton and Davalynn Monroe with four apiece and Gillispie, Smith, Madi Gosch and Hadley Monroe with one each.

In the Lady Lions’ 25-20, 25-17 triumph over Breckenridge, Miller posted eight kills trailed by six from Aleyia Cotton, two each from Stroope and Smith and one from Tyra Cotton.

Davalynn Monroe distributed 10 assists followed by six from Hadley Monroe and one from Miller.

Aleyia Cotton served a team-best two aces while Gillispie, Miller, Davalynn Monroe and Hadley Monroe added one each.

Defensively, the Lady Lions received eight digs from Gillispie followed by five from Miller, two each from Gosch and Aleyia Cotton and one apiece by Smith, Patteson, Tyra Cotton and Davalynn Monroe.

Miller and Aleyia Cotton finished with one block apiece.

In Brownwood’s 25-15, 25-11 loss to Boerne Champion, Patteson, Smith and Miller collected three kills each while Stroope and Aleyia Cotton both finished with two.

Seven assists came from Davalynn Monroe while Hadley Monroe chipped in five, and Miller served the team’s two aces.

On the defensive side of the ball, Davalynn Monroe notched four digs trailed by three each from Patteson and Gosch, two apiece from Gillispie, Miller and Hadley Monroe, and one each by Smith and Tyra Cotton.

The Lady Lions’ 25-20, 25-22 loss to Lubbock Coronado saw Miller rack up eight kills followed by four from Smith, two each from Aleyia Cotton, Tyra Cotton and Patteson and one apiece by Stroope and Davalynn Monroe.

Hadley Monroe led the way with nine assists trailed by five from Davalynn Monroe, and one each from Patteson and Gillispie.

Behind the service line, Miller finished with two aces while Aleyia Cotton and Davalynn Monroe added one apiece.

Gillispie’s seven digs were a team-best trailed by Hadley Monroe with five, Miller and Gosch with four each, Aleyia Cotton and Smith with three apiece, Stroope with a pair and one each from Patteson and Tyra Cotton.

Miller and Aleyia Cotton added blocks as well.

In the 25-12, 25-16 loss to Krum in the weekend finale, Miller collected eight kills followed by two each from Stroope, Patteson and Smith.

Hadley Monroe dished out 12 assists while Tyra Cotton and Davalynn Monroe added one each. Aleyia Cotton served the only ace.

Aleyia Cotton also recorded a team-best five digs followed by two from Gillispie and one each from Gosch and Davalynn Monroe.

Smith notched the lone block for Brownwood.

The Lady Lions (3-4) will return to action at noon Tuesday when they host Jim Ned.
