Lions place 18th overall in season debut
HALTOM CITY — The Brownwood Lady Lions began the 2017 cross country campaign Thursday with a fourth-place performance at the Birdville Early Bird Invitational, trailing only a private school and two 6A programs in the Metroplex.
The Brownwood Lions, meanwhile, placed 18th out of 33 squads.
The Lady Lions generated 169 points which left them behind meet champion Ursuline Academy of Dallas (46 points), runner-up Byron Nelson High School (68 points) and Plano High (124 points).
Kyra Young led the charge for Brownwood with a 16th-place time of 14:05.52, trailed by Darby Crysler (24th, 14:20), Audrey Boren (42nd, 14:46.31), Izzy Lawrence (45th, 14:49.85), Alex Fowler (47th, 14:52.31), Alyssa Couey (81st, 15:44.61) and Trinity Jackson (83rd,15:45.51).
Byron Nelson won the varsity boys portion of the meet with 33 points, while the Lions compiled 495.
Competing for the Lions were Joe Gosch (80th, 12:46.49), Roman McKibben (91st, 13:01.47), Jason Sanchez (114th, 13:31.46), Logan Dick (126th, 13:52.36), Hunter Day (139th, 14:08.75), Damien Cisneros (151st, 14:32.53), and Garrett Ellis (23:03.02).
Brownwood will be back in action Aug. 30 at San Saba.
