SAN SABA — The Brownwood Lady Lions varsity cross country team captured their first meet championship of 2017, finishing first at the San Saba Invitational on Wednesday.

The Lady Lions generated 38 points as a team, 40 points better than runner-up Fredericksburg (78) while easily outdistancing host and third-place finisher San Saba (120).

Senior Kyra Young paced the Lady Lions performance with a second-place effort of 13:16.11, followed by Darby Chrysler in sixth place at 13:24.71; Alex Fowler in eighth place at 13:28.86; Audrey Boren in 12th place at 13:35.99; Izzy Lawrence in 13th place at 13:36.49; Trinity Buitron in 19th place at 13:59.54; and Alyssa Couey in 38th place at 14:59.46.

Competing in JV action for the Lady Lions, Jasmine Thompson placed ninth with a time of 15:48.98 trailed by Mia Sharp (10th place, 15:54.16), Jillian Lambert (25th, 17:14.54) and Becca Menchaca (27th, 17:15.64).

The Lady Lions will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Lubbock.
