With 65 seconds remaining in regulation, Daniel Lemus scored a header off an assist from Dylan Person as the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets rallied past the Texas Wesleyan Rams for a 3-2 victory Thursday at Citizens National Bank Field.

The victory comes on the heels of Saturday’s 2-1 double overtime win in which Roger Bonilla scored the decisive goal with 12 seconds left in the second extra session.

Howard Payne (2-0) fell behind Texas Wesleyan with 4:38 left in the first half as Uriel Oacheco scored off an assist from Juan Rey.

The Yellow Jackets answered a little more than two minutes later, as Micheal Westerman scored with an assist from Tracer Moore, knotting the score at 1 with 2:16 left before halftime.

Texas Wesleyan regained a 2-1 lead just 5:40 into the second half as Luis Pumarejo scored with the assist to Zion Balogun.

HPU again drew even at 2 with 11:50 left as Collin Salyers scored with the assist going to Person, which set up the Yellow Jackets for late-game heroics for the second outing in a row.

The Yellow Jackets attempted 17 shots with eight on goal, while the Rams fired eight with five on target. Andrew Hackney went the distance in goal for Howard Payne and tallied three saves.

The next action for the Yellow Jackets comes at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at Ozarks where they begin American Southwest Conference action.
