HPU to play first three ASC matches at home this week
ATLANTA, Georgia — In their final action prior to the start of the American Southwest Conference volleyball slate, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets dropped all four weekend matches at the Emory Classic, hosted by No. 5 Emory University.
The Lady Jackets were swept by host Emory and DeSales Friday, and lost in four sets to Covenant and straight sets to Chapman on Saturday.
In the 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 defeat at the hands of DeSales, Kailey Doering led Howard Payne with six kills followed by Macy Maniscalo with five, Zhartezia Bradley with four, Cheyanne Lovelady and Madeleine Kelly with three each, and McKenna Walker with one.
Lovelady chalked up a team-best 18 assists while Ashley Moore, Jaci Frazier and Jordan Livingston contributed one each. Lovelady also served two aces while Jordan Rogers added one.
Defensively, Livingston notched 16 digs trailed by Walker with eight, Moore and Frazier with four apiece, Jazmine Bridges with three, and Lovelady, Rogers, Maniscalo and Kelly with two apiece.
At the net, Kelly and Bradley recorded one block each.
In the 25-12, 25-11, 25-12 loss to Emory, Bradley and Doering tallied four kills each followed by Kelly with three, Walker with two, and Mansicalo and Rogers with one apiece.
Lovelady distributed 10 assists, Walker added three, and Bridges and Livingston chipped in one. Howard Payne did not record a service ace.
On defense, Livingston finished with nine digs trailed by Walker with six, Lovelady with four, Bridges with three, Frazier with two, and Moore with one.
Bradley tallied three blocks trailed by Doering with two, and Rogers and Kylie Metcalf with one each.
In the 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19 loss to Covenant, Bradley drilled 11 kills trailed by Doering with 10, Rogers with six, Walker with five, Lovelady, Maniscalo and Kelly with two each, and Metcalf with one.
Lovelady chalked up 32 assists with four coming from Livingston, two from Walker and one from Bridges.
Moore, Bridges, Walker, Livingston and Lovelady also served aces.
The defensive effort featured 32 digs from Livingston, 19 from Lovelady, 15 from Walker, 10 from Bridges, nine from Moore, five from Rogers, three from Frazier, two from Doering and one from Metcalf.
Bradley finished with four blocks while Lovelady, Rogers, Doering, Kelly and Sarah Bapeli added one apiece.
In the 25-9, 25-19, 25-12 defeat against Chapman, Bradley again led the team with five kills trailed by three apiece from Rogers, Doering, Bapeli and Ariana Rehm and one each from Walker and Lovelady.
Walker distributed nine assists followed by Lovelady with five, Bapeli and Livingston with two apiece and Doering and Moore with one each.
Frazier served HPU’s lone ace.
Defensively, Livingston’s 13 digs were a team-best trailed by eight from Walker, four each from Frazier and Rehm, three from Bapeli, two apiece from Lovelady, Doering, Moore and Rogers, and one each by Bradley and Bridges.
At the net, Bradley posted three blocks while Rogers added one.
The Lady Jackets (2-6) will play their first three American Southwest Conference matches at the Brownwood Coliseum this week — 5 p.m. Tuesday vs. Sul Ross, 5 p.m. Friday vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor, and 2 p.m. Saturday vs. Concordia.
