The Howard Payne Lady Jackets kicked off American Southwest Conference action with a four-set victory over Sul Ross Tuesday night in the first of three consecutive matches at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Fresh off a four-game road trip to the Emory University tournament in Georgia, the Lady Jackets cruised to a 25-17, 25-8, 21-25, 25-17 victory.

Offensively for HPU, Kailey Doering recorded 14 kills trailed by Cheyanne Lovelady and Zhartezia Bradley with seven apiece, and Macy Maniscalo, McKenna Walker and Jordan Rogers with five each.

Lovelady also contributed 31 assists followed by five from Walker, four from Jordan Livingston, two from Jazmine Bridges and one from Bradley.

Walker and Ashley Moore served a pair of aces while Lovelady and Livingston each added one.

Defensively, Livingston’s 33 digs were a team-best followed by 16 from Moore, 12 from Maniscalo, 11 from Walker, 10 apiece from Lovelady and Bridges, four from Bradley and three from Doering.

At the net, Rogers notched five blocks, Walker and Lovelady added two apiece and Doering and Bradley both finished with one.

Sul Ross (2-7, 0-1) received 12 kills and three blocks from Autumn Kilpatrick, 23 assists and 18 digs from Mirella Thomas, and 18 digs from Alyssa Lanahan as well.

The Lady Jackets (3-6, 1-0) will welcome Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5 p.m. Thursday and Concordia at 2 p.m. Saturday.
