Annual Brownwood Invitational slated for Wednesday

In their final events prior to hosting Wednesday’s Brownwood Invitational, the Lady Lions on Saturday captured first place at the Lubbock CLM cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park, annual site of the Region I-4A meet, while the Lions placed fifth at the Liberty Hill Invitational.
The Lady Lions finished with 36 points, outdistancing runner-up Slaton (57 points) and third-place Abernathy (129).
All of Brownwood’s competitors finished in the Top 25, led by the second-place performance of Izzy Lawrence, who was clocked at 12:22.76. Placing fifth was Kyra Young at 12:42.32 followed by sixth-place Darby Crysler at 12:47.37, 10th-place Audrey Boren at 13:06.99, 21st-place Alex Fowler at 13:41.47 and 25th-place Trinity Buitron at 13:44.51.
In Liberty Hill Saturday, the Lions garnered 113 points which trailed meet host and champion Liberty Hill (25 points), Jarrell (90), Wimberley (96) and Ingram Tom Moore (106).
Roman McKibben led the way for the Lions with a 16th-place time of 18:10 followed by Damian Cisneros (25th, 18:28), Logan Dick (26th, 18:30), Hunter Day (27th, 18:34), Jason Sanchez (39th,  19:23), Eloy Castillo (53rd, 20:50), Aaron Menchaca (55th, 21:32), Brayden Yazella (56th, 21:33) and Garrett Ellis (57th, 21:43).
The Brownwood Invitational will take place at the middle school with the elementary races at 4 p.m., followed by high school action. The varsity girls race begins at 5 p.m. with the varsity boys to start at 5:30 p.m.
