With just over a week remaining until the start of District 5-4A volleyball action, the Brownwood Lady Lions stretched their win streak to four games with a straight-set victory over the Breckenridge Lady Bucks Tuesday night at Warren Gym.
The Lady Lions, coming off five-set wins over Abilene High and Graham and a three-set decision over Wall, collected a 25-10, 25-14, 25-20 victory.
“The girls played pretty good,” said Lady Lions second-year head coach Julie Kennedy. “We may have missed one serve the whole game, so our serving was a high point. Our passing was pretty good as well, they were mostly on target.”
Torrey Miller paced the Brownwood (10-13) attack with 12 kills followed by seven from Aleyia Cotton, six from Cheyenne Stroope, five from Mikaela Smith, four from Ashlynn Patteson and one from Tyra Cotton.
Hadley Monroe dished out 17 assists while Davalynn Monroe distributed 15 and Tyra Cotton chipped in one.
Behind the service line, Patteson’s four aces were a team-best trailed by three each from Aleyia Cotton and Davalynn Monroe and two apiece from Miller and Smith.
On the defensive end, Miller and Patteson recorded 10 digs apiece followed by Aleyia Cotton and Hadley Monroe with four each, Smith, Davalynn Monroe and Annie Gillispie with three apiece and Tyra Cotton with one.
Stroope finished with three blocks, Miller and Patteson each added two and Smith and Tyra Cotton chalked up one apiece.
The Lady Lions visit Abilene Cooper at 4 p.m. Friday and Fredericksburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday before their District 5-4A opener at Big Spring Friday, Sept. 22.
“We’re exactly where I want us to be right now,” Kennedy said. “We’re ready for district to start and we’re excited to see how we’re going to stack up.
“On Friday I want to see them come out obviously with a win, but come out and play our game at our speed and tempo. I want to see it for all three, four or five games, however long it goes.”
