Lady Jackets slip to 1-2 in conference after four-set, five-set losses
The Howard Payne Lady Jackets dropped a pair of American Southwest Conference volleyball home matches at the Brownwood Coliseum, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor in four sets Friday and Concordia in five sets Saturday.
In the loss to Concordia, Howard Payne squandered a two sets to none lead as the Lady Tornados charged back for a 23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-8 victory.
Offensively for HPU, Zhartezia Bradley recorded 13 kills followed by Jordan Rogers with 10, Mach Maniscalo with seven, McKenna Walker with six, Kailey Doering with five, Cheyanne Lovelady with four and Madeleine Kelly with one.
Lovelady notched 39 assists trailed by Walker and Jordan Livingston with two each.
Walker, Livingston and Bradly also served aces.
On the defensive end, Livingston collected 26 digs trailed by Lovelady with 14, Ashley Moore with 12, Walker with nine, Jaci Frazier with seven, Bradley with five Jazmine Bridges with three, Maniscalo with two and Rogers and Kelly with one apiece.
At the net, Bradley tallied blocks, Kelly added two and Rogers contributed one.
For Concordia (5-4, 2-0), Marjani Myles and Marissa Stinson delivered 14 kills each, Lianne VanDyke tallied 54 assists and four aces, Kelly Farina recorded 18 digs and Myles added six blocks.
On Friday, the Lady Jackets suffered a four-set home loss at the hands of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-14, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Bradley led Howard Payne with 13 kills followed by five each from Walker and Rogers, four apiece from Maniscalo and Lovelady, two from Doering and one apiece from Moore, Frazier and Chelsea James.
Lovelady distributed 26 assists trailed by Livingston with three, Walker with two and Doering with one.
Livingston, Walker and Moore each served two aces while Lovelady and Bradley added one apiece.
Defensively, Livingston's 18 digs led the Lady Jackets followed by nine from Walker, seven from Lovelady, five from Moore, four apiece from Maniscalo and Frazier, two each from Bradley and Doering and one from Bridges.
At the net, Bradley collected four blocks trailed by Lovelady and Maniscalo with two each and Walker, Doering and Rogers with one apiece.
UMHB (9-1, 1-1) received 15 kills and three aces from Sarah Paolini, 15 kills from Miranda Klein, 38 assists, 21 digs and three blocks Natasha Evans, as well as three blocks from Maddie French.
The Lady Jackets (3-8, 1-2) visit Texas Lutheran at 6 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action, then take part in the first ASC Crossover hosted by LeTourneau over the weekend. HPU will face UT-Tyler at 10 a.m. Friday and Louisiana College at 5 p.m. Friday in Longview, then tangle with LeTourneau at noon Saturday.
