TYLER — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were dealt their first loss of the season in their fourth outing, as the UT-Tyler Patriots rolled to a 5-0 victory in American Southwest Conference men's soccer action Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (3-1, 1-1) were limited to just two shots — one by Collin Saylers and one by Antonio Zermeno, whose attempt was the lone on goal.

UT-Tyler (3-1-2, 2-0) drilled 30 shots with 17 on frame as Andrew Hackney tallied 10 saves in 76:25 of action for HPU, while Nicholas Panameno picked up two saves in 13:35.

The Patriots led just 1-0 at halftime as Leandro Fernandez scored 13:49 into the contest with an assist from Caio Godinho.

UT-Tyler extended the advantage to 2-0 just 2:01 into the second half on an unassisted goal by Akon N'Guetta.

Just 6:37 later, UT-Tyler tacked on its third goal as Alfonso Ochoa scored with the assist to Rolando Hernandez.

With 20:26 remaining, Jose Poo accounted for the Patriots' fourth goal thanks to an assist from Brian Cassady.

N'Guetta scored the final goal — his second of the game — unassisted with 8:15 remaining.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they host Louisiana College in ASC action.

 

 

UT-Tyler 4, Lady Jackets 0

 

TYLER — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets were unable to duplicate Thursday's American Southwest Conference opening victory as they were blanked by UT-Tyler, 4-0, Saturday afternoon.

Howard Payne (2-2-1, 1-1) was attempted only two shots — one by Kacie Masters and the other by Jada Austin — with none on goal.

UT-Tyler (4-1, 1-1) fired 36 shots with 16 on target as Alexandra Thompson recorded seven saves for the Lady Jackets, while Nicole Goodwin tallied five as the duo played one half each.

The Lady Patriots took a 1-0 lead just 12:19 into the contest as Caitlyn Mortus scored with an assist from Bailey Wooten. With 9:31 before halftime, Kaycee West stretched the advantage to 2-0 with an assist from Vanessa Rangel.

Just 10:28 after halftime UT-Tyler notched its third goal as Mortus scored again with Caroline Williams picking up the assist.

A mere 2:29 later, West capped the scoring with her second goal as Danielle Lacasse was credited with the assist.

The Lady Jackets will be back in action at 2 p.m. Thursday when they host Louisiana College in ASC action.
