LAMPASAS — In their final tune up prior to the start of the District 6-3A volleyball schedule, the Early Lady Horns dropped a four-set decision — 25-21, 13-25, 25-22, 25-22 — at Class 4A Lampasas Tuesday night.

“We played really well for the most part, but it’s the little things that are keeping us from being extraordinary on the court,” said Early first-year head coach Natalie Whitewood. “The best part is we get a chance to start over Saturday with our goal of bringing home the first gold ball ever.”

Early’s offensive effort included seven kills each from Kacee Gober and Lainey Speck followed by six from Trinity Tomlinson, three from Jenna Whitehead, two from Ellie Ryan and one from Morgan Luckie.

CyLee Tyson dished out 15 assists while Vancy Cady Gordon contributed nine and Gober was credited with one.

Tyson and Tomlinson both served a pair of aces and Gober and Speck added one apiece.

Defensively, Emma Loven’s 24 digs led the way trailed by 14 from Tomlinson, 10 each from Tyson and Gober, eight from Brilee Tabor, four from Gordon, two each from Speck and Hope Boswell and one apiece by Ryan and Taylor Turner.

At the net, Gober finished with five blocks, Whitehead collected two and Ryan added one.

Early visits Breckenridge at 2 p.m. Saturday to start district competition.
