FREDERICKSBURG — The Brownwood Lady Lions will head into Friday’s District 5-4A volleyball opener on a two-game slide following Tuesday’s straight-set loss to Fredericksburg.

Coming off a five-set defeat at Abilene Cooper Friday, the Lady Lions were dealt a 25-16, 25-15, 25-17 loss by the Battlin’ Billies.

For Brownwood (10-15), Torrey Miller’s 10 kills paced the offense followed by three each from Aleyia Cotton and Mikaela Smith and two from Cheyenne Stroope.

Hadley Monroe finished with nine assists, Davalynn Monroe added seven and Tyra Cotton and Ashlynn Patteson contributed one each.

Miller, Smith and Aleyia Cotton served aces.

Defensively, Davalynn Monroe chalked up nine digs trailed by eight from Miller, six from Aleyia Cotton and Hadley Monroe, five from Annie Gillispie, three from Patteson, two from Tyra Cotton and one apiece from Smith, Stroope and Caitlyn Moody.

At the net, Miller came away with three blocks and Stroope recorded one.

The Lady Lions kick off district action at 6 p.m. Friday at Big Spring.
