SWEETWATER — The Brownwood High tennis team opened District 5-4A competition with a dominating 19-0 shutout victory over Snyder here Thursday.

“That was a great start for district play,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Mark Davis. “We weren't perfect, but we were pretty good. The Lady Lions dominated and the Lions battled and also got wins in all their matches. We feel good going into the match with Big Spring next week.”

In boys singles action, victories belonged to No. 1 Jeremy Roberson (6-4, 6-2 over Chapman), No. 2 Gabe Hinojosa (7-6 [7-5], 6-0 over S. Jones), No. 3 Mo Goff (8-2 over Sharp), No. 4 Jimmy Kniss (8-3 over B. Jones), No. 5 James Bautista (6-2, 6-3 over Guynes) and No. 6 Cameron Smith (7-5, 7-6 [7-5] over Lamb).

Girls singles winners included No. 1 Kendra Renfroe (6-0, 6-1 over Campos), No. 2 Piper Barberie (6-1, 6-0 over Sanchez), No. 3 Mckinzie Adkins (6-0, 6-1 over Cowley), No. 4 Cameron Hall (8-3 over Stephens), No. 5 Jordan Stavley (8-6 over Stelluti) and No. 6 Kayleigh George (8-3 over Hunter).

Boys doubles wins were claimed by No. 1 Hinojosa and Kniss (6-4, 6-2 over Jones and Sharp), No. 2 Cade Rector and Pablo Solis (6-1, 6-1 over Fowler and Guynes) and No. 3 Tanner Scull and Jose Lira (6-4, 6-0 over Jaimes and Lamb).

Chalking up girls doubles victories were No. 1 Renfroe and Barberie (6-1, 6-0 0ver Cowley and Sanchez), No. 2 Stavley and Hall (6-3, 6-1 over Stephens and Bhatka) and No. 3 George and Jonescue (6-2, 6-2 over Hunter and Stelluti).

The mixed doubles win went to Beownwood's Roberson and Adkins (6-0, 6-1 over Chapman and Campos).

Brownwood (10-5, 1-0) is back in action at 2:30 p.m. Thursday against 5-4A rival Big Spring at Abilene Wylie.
