The Howard Payne Lady Jackets improved to 3-1 in American Southwest Conference women's soccer action with their second consecutive victory at Citizens National Bank Field Saturday, a 2-1 triumph over the Belhaven Lady Blazers.

Coming off Thursday's 2-0 home win over Louisiana College, Howard Payne (4-2-1, 3-1) scored both its goals in the opening 25 minutes and fended off a Belhaven (2-5-1, 1-2) rally in the second half.

Jada Austin accounted for both Lady Jacket goals, scoring on an assist from Dayne Gutierrez just 19:33 into the contest. A mere 5:25 later, with 10:02 left before intermission, Austin again found the net with the assist to Kacie Masters.

Belhaven closed the gap to 2-1 with 24:10 remaining when Jessica Mahoney scored following an assist from Suzanne Dease. HPU goal keeper Nicole Goodwin finished with five saves, however, as the Lady Blazers converted just one of their 17 shot attempts, six of which were on target.

The Lady Jackets finished with 18 shots, including eight on goal — three by Austin and one each by Gutierrez, Kaitlyn Harrison, Rachel Crane, Lesly Garcia and Brittany Cortez.

Howard Payne will return to action at 5 p.m. Saturday at UT-Dallas.
