Following a six-goal outburst in Thursday's win over Louisiana College, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were unable to light the Saturday scoreboard in a 1-0 home loss to the Belhaven Blazers in American Southwest Conference men's soccer action at Citizens National Bank Field.
Howard Payne (4-2, 2-2) surrendered the game's only goal with 21:42 remaining as Michah Taylor found the net thanks to an assist by Sam Joy, as Belhaven (1-4-3, 1-2) picked up its first victory of the season.
The Yellow Jackets attempted 18 shots with six on goal — two each by Daniel Lemus and Collin Salyers and one apiece by Tim Murphy and Reid Longabaugh — but Blazer goal keeper Thomas Blake notched the shutout.
Nicholas Panameno matched Blake with six saves as Belhaven finished with 12 shots, including seven on frame.
Howard Payne will attempt to rebound at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at East Texas Baptist.
