Next up for Brownwood is District 5-4A meet at Abilene Wednesday

GOLDTHWAITE — The Brownwood Lady Lions and Lions cross country teams both finished first at the Goldthwaite Invitational on Wednesday.

The Lady Lions finished with 33 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Brady (64 points) and third-place Goldthwaite (80). The Lions generated 45 points with the nearest competition being Priddy (79 points) followed by Brady (90), Bangs (91) and Early (99).

Leading the charge for the Lady Lions was Kyra Young in a second-place time of 12:58 trailed by Darby Crysler (fifth, 13:04), Izzy Lawrence (sixth, 13:08), Audrey Boren (eighth, 13:11), Trinity Buitron (13th, 13:35) and Alex Fowler (22nd, 14:15).

For the Lions, Joe Gosch’s fourth-place time of 17:45 was the team-best followed by Damian Cisneros (seventh, 17:53), Jason Sanchez (eighth, 18:05), Roman McKibben (10th, 18:14), Hunter Day (16th, 18:53), Logan Dick (20:00), Kaleb Painter (20:19), Josh Estrada (20:28), Jesse Sanchez (20:33), Aaron Menchaca (21:43), Hunter Biasiolli (22:08), Garrett Ellis (22:46), Jeremy Peel (22:56), Noe Cinceros (24:56), Jeremiah Bond (25:32), and Antonio Valenciano (26:42).

Both the Lions and Lady Lions will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Sherrod Park in Abilene for the District 5-4A meet. The Lady Lions will be seeking a fourth consecutive district championship and seventh in eight years, while the Lions are targeting their first title since 2012.

Junior varsity action begins at 4 p.m. with the varsity squads to start running at 5 p.m.
