BELTON — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets were dealt a second straight American Southwest Conference shutout defeat, falling to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Lady Crusaders, 5-0, Thursday night.

Mary Hardin-Baylor (9-1-1, 6-0-1) scored twice in the first half and tacked on three goals in the second half. Howard Payne (4-4-1, 3-3) was limited to two shots with one on goal — by Miranda Rice. UMHB finished with 33 shots and 19 on frame, as HPU goal keeper Nicole Goodwin recorded 13 saves while Shelby Tanksley tallied one.

UMHB scored its first goal 13:59 before halftime as Sarah Rempe found the net unassisted, while Sydney Rangel followed with an unassisted goal 2:48 later.

In the second half, Taylor Marques scored off an assist from Rempe just 8:47 after intermission. Elissa Freberg then tacked on a pair of unassisted goals with 18:06 and 15:51 left in the contest.

The Lady Jackets visit Concordia at 5 p.m. Saturday.

UMHB 2, Yellow Jackets 0

BELTON — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets suffered their fourth straight American Southwest Conference men’s soccer loss, while the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders remained undefeated in league action following a 2-0 decision Thursday night.

UMHB (10-1, 5-0) tallied its first goal 14:41 into the contest as Case Carnes scored unassisted. The Crusaders tacked on their second goal just 1:16 into the second half as Amani Colbert found the net with an assist from Luke Lopez.

Howard Payne (4-5, 2-4) attempted just four shots with two on goal — by Reid Longabaugh and Michael Westerman. Mary Hardin Baylor fired 13 shots with eight on target, as Nicholas Panameno recorded five saves for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets will attempt to halt their slide at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Concordia.
