AUSTIN — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets dipped back below the .500 mark in American Southwest Conference volleyball action over the weekend, falling to the Concordia Lady Tornados in four sets Friday and the Mary Hardin-Baylor Lady Crusaders in straight sets Saturday.
On Friday against current ASC West second seed Concordia, the Lady Jackets won the first set, 25-18, but dropped the next three, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.
In the loss, Zhartezia Bradley paced the HPU offense with 12 kills trailed by Kailey Doering with seven, Jordan Rogers with six, Macy Maniscalo with five, Madeleine Kelly with two, and Jazmine Bridges, Cheyanne Lovelady, McKenna Walker and Ashley Moore with one apiece.
Lovelady distributed 32 assists while Doering and Bridges were each credited with one.
Walker, Bridges and Lovelady recorded the Lady Jacket aces.
On the defensive end, Jordan Livingston notched 20 digs followed by seven each from Bridges and Walker, five from Lovelady, four from Moore, two each from Doering, Bradley and Maniscalo and one apiece by Rogers and Kelly.
At the net, Doering collected three blocks, Bradley and Rogers added two apiece and Walker and Kelly both finished with one.
Concordia (9-7, 6-2) received 17 kills and three blocks from Marissa Stinson, three aces and 22 digs from Sydney Dudney, and 47 assists from Georgia Quiroz.
In Saturday’s 25-14, 25-12, 25-15 loss to ASC West leader Mary Hardin-Baylor, Bradley’s eight kills were a team-best followed by four from Rogers, three each from Lovelady and Maniscalo and one apiece by Walker and Doering.
Lovelady contributed 16 assists while Doering, Walker and Moore were each credited with one. Bradley, Bridges and Doering served aces.
Defensively, Livingston tallied 12 digs followed by Walker with 10, Bridges with nine, Lovelady with six, Bradley with four, Maniscalo with three, Moore and Sarah Bapeli with two apiece and Doering, Kelly and Ariana Rehm with one each.
Bradley recorded four blocks, Doering and Kelly added three each, Rogers finished with two and Maniscalo collected one.
For UMHB (17-2, 9-1), Corinne Novak notched 10 kills, Natasha Evans finished with 25 assists and three blocks and Haleigh Evans recorded 12 digs.
The Lady Jackets (7-13, 5-6) are off until the weekend when they venture to McMurry for the second ASC Crossover. HPU will face UT-Dallas at 10 a.m. Friday, Belhaven at 5:30 p.m. Friday and East Texas Baptist at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
