Brownwood to play all four second-half matches at home beginning with Big Spring Tuesday

ABILENE — The Brownwood Lady Lions concluded the first half of District 5-4A volleyball action with a 1-3 record, falling to league front-running Abilene Wylie in four sets Friday.

In what was Brownwood's fourth straight district match on the road, Wylie emerged with a 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18 victory.

The Lady Lions (11-18, 1-3) received a 25-kill performance from Torrey Miller followed by seven from Mikaela Smith, five from Cheyenne Stroope, two from Ashlynn Patteson and one by Davalynn Monroe.

Hadley Monroe recorded 19 assists while Davalynn Monroe contributed 16 and Miller was credited with one.

Smith served a team-best five aces followed by Stroope with a pair and Patteson and Miller with one apiece.

Defensively, Miller and Hadley Monroe finished with 13 digs apiece trailed by Davalynn Monroe with nine, Stroope with eight, Annie Gillispie with seven, Caitlyn Moody with six, and Smith with four.

At the net, Stroope and Davalynn Monroe tallied three blocks each, Miller added two and Smith finished with one.

Brownwood begins the second half of district — in which it will play all four matches at Warren Gym — at 6 p.m. Tuesday when Big Spring visits. The Lady Lions stand in fifth place in the league standings with time to climb as the top four teams make the playoffs.
