ROUND ROCK— The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 road victory over the Concordia Tornados in American Southwest Conference men’s soccer action Saturday night.

Howard Payne (5-5, 3-4) scored the decisive goal 14:13 into the second half as Daniel Lemus found the net with an assist from Tracer Moore.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed a 1-0 advantage just 9:25 into the contest as Lemus tallied his first goal with an assist from Dylan Person.

Concordia (7-3-1, 4-3-1) knotted the score at 1 with 14 minutes left in the first half as Nash Cole found the net with an assist from Ronny Garza.

Nicholas Panameno tallied six saves in goal for HPU as Concordia took 18 shots with seven on target.

Howard Payne attempted nine shots and only two on goal.

The Yellow Jackets will shoot for a two-game win streak at 3:30 p.m. Thursday when McMurry visits.

 

Concordia 3, Lady Jackets 1

 

ROUND ROCK — The Concordia Lady Tornados broke a 1-all tie with a pair of second-half goals en route to dishing out a 3-1 defeat to the Howard Payne Lady Jackets Saturday in American Southwest Conference women’s soccer action.

With 12:57 remaining, Concordia (8-5, 4-4) regained the lead as Kaycee Moore scored with an assist from Kaylee Carlove. Just 3:26 later, Concordia tacked on an insurance goal as Moore found the net again with an assist from Skylar Larkin.

The Lady Tornados scored first just 3:43 into the contest as Cayla Gonzales lit up the board with an assist from Carlove.

Howard Payne (4-5-1, 3-4) drew even at 1 with 23:22 left in the half as Kaitlyn Harrison scored, assisted by Dayane Gutierrez and Morgan Patterson.

The Lady Jackets finished with 12 shots including six on goal — two by Harrison and one each by Rachel Crane, Jada Austin, Kacie Masters and Lesly Garcia.

Nicole Goodwin tallied six saves for Howard Payne as Concordia attempted 25 shots with nine on target.

The Lady Jackets will attempt to snap a three-game losing streak at 1 p.m. Thursday when McMurry visits.
