Reigning Class 4A boys golf state champion Jaryn Pruitt added another title to his collection over the weekend as he finished first at the Badger Invitational, held Friday at Hancock Park in Lampasas and Saturday at Delaware Springs in Burnet.
After firing an opening round 76, which left him four shots behind Burnet’s Jess Luther at the midway point, Pruitt responded with a closing 69 — the only under par round of the entire tournament — to post a 145 composite, good for a two-stroke victory over Round Rock McNeil’s Diego Courtney, who tallied rounds of 73 and 74.
As a team, the Lions finished in fifth place with a group score of 665, carding an opening 337 and closing 328. Brownwood trailed tournament champion McNeil (625), Lake Travis (626), Georgetown (632) and Belton (637).
Also competing for the Lions were Caden Reagan (87-82=169), John Murray (86-88=174), Jordan Ortega (88-89=177) and Julyan Deanda (99-107=206).
In girls action, the Lady Lions finished seventh with an 895 total over the two-day event.
Mallory Garcia led the charge for Brownwood with a 178 composite score following rounds of 84 and 94. Avery Holden added a 215 (112-103), Dalainy Garza carded a 226 (115-111) and Payton Stewart finished with a 293 (148-145).
