SAN SABA — The Brownwood Lady Lions remained undefeated on the season with a pair of lopsided Thursday victories to open the San Saba tournament.
First, the Lady Lions mauled Cherokee, 84-11, followed by a 54-20 thrashing of Early.
The Lady Lions held Cherokee scoreless in the first period, jumping out to a 23-0 lead. By halftime, Brownwood's advantage stood at 52-3. Another scoreless quarter in the third allowed the Lady Lions to pad their cushion to 68-3.
Four Lady Lions finished in double figures with Sage Cupps pouring in a team-high 23 points followed by Ryleigh Dalleh with 15, Taytum Sutton with 13 and Mallory Garcia with 12. McKenzie Welker contributed six points trailed by Mya Wallace with five, Kenya Barnes and Hadley Monroe with four apiece and Daisy Green with two points.
Brownwood shot 53 percent (36 of 68) from the floor, including 36 percent (9 of 25) on three-pointers, and 50 percent (3 of 6) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions also recorded 31 steals, pulled down 19 rebounds, dished out 17 assists and committed just eight turnovers.
In the victory over Early, the Lady Lions led 15-8 after one quarter, 31-14 at halftime and 39-16 through three periods.
Cupps again led the charge with 20 points trailed by Green with eight, Garcia and Dalleh with five apiece, Wallace and Monroe with four each, Sutton and Barnes with three apiece and Welker with two points.
For Early, Ellie Ryan tallied nine points followed by Morgan Luckie with six, Kacee Gober with three and Ashlyn Kirby with two points.
The Lady Lions (4-0) will face Hico at 8:15 a.m. Friday and Llano at 1:15 p.m. Early is scheduled to face Llano at 9:30 a.m. and Cherokee at 2:30 p.m.
